The accumulation of dust on window constructions is not only an aesthetic problem, but also a health issue. Fine particles of allergens settle on the lamellae and rise into the air with every movement of the blinds. You don’t have to remove the system and carry it to the bathroom to restore the windows to their original appearance.
The most effective dry cleaning methods
If the dirt is fresh, it is best to use methods that do not require the use of water and detergents. This will help to avoid streaks on the surface.
-
Special pincer brush. This tool allows you to grasp several strips at once, cleaning them on both sides at the same time.
-
Microfiber. Microfiber fabric is excellent at attracting dust thanks to static electricity. Simply wipe each lamella in the closed position.
-
A regular sock. An oldie but goodie: put a clean cotton sock over your hand like a glove. This gives you maximum control and allows you to wipe even hard-to-reach places at the bindings.
-
Vacuum cleaner. Use the soft-bristled nozzle on the lowest power setting. Move from top to bottom so that falling particles do not stain already clean areas.
Wet cleaning for heavy soiling
When grease builds up on the blinds (especially in the kitchen), dry wiping can only smear the dirt. In this case, it is worth resorting to more drastic measures.
-
Vinegar solution. Mix warm water with ordinary table vinegar in a ratio of one to one. This solution is excellent at dissolving stains and giving a shine to plastic and metal.
-
Soapy water. A small amount of dishwashing detergent will quickly remove grease. It is important to wipe the lamellae with a clean, damp cloth after this procedure and then wipe dry.
-
Laundry Conditioner. If you wipe your blinds with water and a small amount of antistatic agent, dust will settle on them much more slowly.
Cleaning characteristics of different materials
The approach to cleaning directly depends on what your blinds are made of. The wrong choice of product can spoil the appearance of the product.
-
Plastic and metal models. The most unpretentious. You can safely wash them, use household chemicals and even give them a “shower” in the bathroom in case of heavy soiling.
-
Wooden blinds. Categorically do not like excessive moisture. Water can cause the wood to swell or warp. Only dry cleaning or the use of special polishes is suitable for them.
-
Fabric roller blinds. Usually impregnated with a dust-repellent compound. They are best cleaned with a dry brush or vacuum cleaner, and localized stains can be removed with a slightly damp sponge without rubbing.
Regular maintenance of the lamellae once a week prevents the formation of a dense layer of dirt and significantly extends the life of window accessories. Clean blinds provide a flow of fresh air and make the atmosphere in the house healthier and cozier.
